The school year is over and the weather is heating up! (or in our case, has been heating up for a while now!) This is a great time of year to perform some maintenance on your home to keep it in tip-top shape. We will soon be in the season of backyard BBQ’s, summer sleepovers & porch swing sitting- enjoy your downtime without stressing over your home! While we all hate doing house chores these simple tasks take only a small portion of your time & make a big impact on your home.
Give your home a wash.
Being that we live in Georgia with humid weather, mildew is, unfortunately, a reality we must deal with. This can make your home look unwelcoming & dirty. Grab a spray bottle and fill it with equal parts water & bleach. Give your siding a quick spray & leave it to sit for a few minutes. Once it’s sat for a minute, rinse with your hose and voila! Clean siding & a fresher look to your home! Don’t have time to take care of this chore? You may want to call a local pressure washing service to help with this one! They can spray off the windows, doors & walkways of your home too!
Adjust your sprinkler system.
Take a few minutes & ensure your sprinkler heads are hitting the appropriate areas of your yard. Make sure no water is being wasted on the sidewalk or driveway! You may also consider changing the schedule you have set to water your lawn. Watering in the morning is best, as temperatures are usually at their coolest. Most lawns need an inch of water per week, ensuring your’s is receiving enough water will keep your lawn lush & green!
Service your air conditioner.
The summer is the time of year your air conditioner will be working the hardest. Recently, we’ve seen temperatures in the 100s & the high 90s. Don’t make your unit overextend itself. Set the temperature higher when your family isn’t in the home, and adjust the temperature down in the evening if you prefer a cooler climate. Flush your unit with bleach or have a trained professional do so for you to clear out any grime that may accumulate over time. And don’t forget to change those filters periodically! Running the unit constantly & not properly maintaining it will cause the unit to freeze over and shorten its overall lifespan. Not to mention, increase your electric bill!
