Maintenance Tips for the Fall
Believe it or not, the season of summer is winding down. We’re now entering the season of Fall and saying goodbye to beach trips & watermelon slices. While it doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll be seeing leaves falling or feeling the slightest bit chilly for a few weeks still, this changing of seasons is a good time to take care of some simple home maintenance. We collected our top home maintenance tasks that can help you keep your home in tip-top shape throughout this time of flannel, boots & pumpkin spice everything.
Clean the exterior of your home
Frequent thunderstorms during the summer mean lots of debris around your home. Take an afternoon to sweep your driveway & back patio and pick up any limbs that may have fallen during a storm. Have any trees you’re unsure of checked out & trimmed. If raking leaves isn’t your idea of a fun Saturday, start calling around to lawn care companies to have your yard raked occasionally over the next few months.
Pick up any summer toys not being used and store them away in your garage for safe keeping. Chances are that inflatable flamingo kiddie pool isn’t being used as frequently as it was months ago. Gather up those summer water toys, give them a quick cleaning and store them away while they aren’t being used. Inspect your patio furniture for damage, repair & replace as needed. Throw out anything that’s broken and donate unused or unwanted items.
This is a good time to clean your vinyl siding & tidy up any flower beds, too.
Inspect for cracks & caulk as needed
Over time the caulking that prevents air from leaking in & out of your home degrades. Take some time to check your home for any of these cracks. If you do see cracks near a window or doorframes grab a caulk gun & take care of those holes. This will ensure no heat is lost during those cold months & will save some money, too!
Safety first
Having a working smoke detector is extremely important to your family’s safety. Every year at Daylights Savings time, your smoke detectors need new batteries! Change them out while you’re thinking about it! That fireplace also needs to be inspected & cleaned. Look closely for chipped or damaged logs & replace if needed. Follow the manual’s instructions to clean away any residue from the logs & surround. You may need a special cleaning solution for this!
Deep Clean Forgotten Places
Some areas of our home don’t show dirt & need for cleaning like others. That doesn’t mean they don’t need some TLC though! Grab some supplies and hit up those less obvious places including behind the refrigerator, kitchen cabinets & the blinds & curtains throughout your home. These simple tasks will make a difference without much effort!
Maintaining your home year after year can seem like a daunting task, but breaking up the home maintenance seasonally can make it easier. We’ve created a handy-dandy checklist for you to use to make things even quicker & easier!
